Uropodidae 3

Uropodidae

Here is an animated giif I did a while ago of a live mite

Since then it's been in the freezer frozen in a block of ice.   Today I thawed it out and tried putting it in distilled water on a cavity slide then photoing it, the results were not very good, you could not see and count the bristles on the various plates underneath.

Next I replaced the water with acetic acid, after a few minutes the specemin started to clear marvelously.   So here are some pictures and through focus movies, What do you think?   Should it be possible to ID mites from pics like these?

A picture of a mm ruler, the pictures of the whole mite are to this scale

The mite from above with top light, looking through the thickness of the microscope slide.

As above but the light is coming from below through a frosted filter.
Uropodidae 3
This picture is of Uropodidae 3 captured in the Sheffield area of South Yorkshire UK

The underside of the mite, home brew light and dark field, just through the cover slip.

The following movies are at higher magnification, of the underside with the light below the mite.

Through Focus Movie (TFM) of mouthparts, light from below .

As above but further back with camera sensativity turned up.

The mid, I beleive it's the genital region.

The anal region.
